Bonnie Castle: Where History Meets Hollywood
Built in 1896, Bonnie Castle is one of Grantville’s most recognizable historic landmarks. Now proudly owned by the Latimore Berry family, the property stands as a testament to the town’s architectural heritage and growing connection to the entertainment industry. With filming activity associated with Marvel’s Echo and Grantville serving as the backdrop for productions such as The Walking Dead, The Color Purple, and The Bondsman, Bonnie Castle remains part of a community where Southern history and Hollywood storytelling meet.
The heart of Grantville, Georgia, came alive on June 20, 2026, for the 4th Annual Juneteenth Celebration at Griffin Street Park. This special community gathering honored the historic significance of Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans while celebrating the strength, perseverance, and cultural contributions of generations past and present.
More than just a celebration, the event represented the importance of preserving African American history, educating younger generations, and creating a space where families, friends, and neighbors could come together in unity.
A Day of Culture, Community & Connection
The celebration’s program offered something for every generation, bringing together history, entertainment, and community fellowship. Guests were invited to enjoy live chili and blues festivities, historical displays, refreshments, games, and family-friendly activities.
A special tribute to veterans recognized those who have served our country, while the honoring of Mr. and Mrs. Juneteenth added a meaningful tradition to the festivities.
The event also highlighted the importance of community partnerships, with support from local churches, organizations, and the Ladies & Gentlemen Club of Grantville.
Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future
For the Latimore family, community celebrations like Juneteenth reflect the values that have connected generations: family, heritage, service, and togetherness.
By supporting opportunities for cultural education, remembrance, and fellowship, the family continues to champion the importance of preserving local history while strengthening the community for future generations.
Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not simply a moment in history but a legacy worth remembering, protecting, and celebrating.
Because when we honor where we came from, we inspire where we’re going.
